Go Green
BlackBook — India's Luxury Insider|August 2018

Designer Raghavendra Rathore, an advocate of sustainable fashion, says it’s high time luxury brands rethink their age-old practices and adopt eco-friendly ways to minimalise waste.

Go Green

Last month, the iconic British brand Burberry sparked a worldwide debate on the luxury industry’s practice of burning unsold stock worth millions. It reportedly incinerated unsold clothes, accessories and perfumes worth $37 million last year, outraging the investors, consumers and environmentalists.

Back home, fashion designer Raghavendra Rathore thinks that the international brand’s shift in brand identity might have been the real reason behind disposing the old stock and designs. But whether the products were burnt to harness energy or not is beside the point. Rathore tells BlackBook that it’s high time that brands think of alternative, sustainable ways to deal with their stock.
