Hollywood’s cutest couple, RYAN GOSLING and EMMA STONE, reunite for a third movie, making beautiful music together in the hit song-anddance romance La La Land.
La La Land is a love story of two 21st century dreamers trying to make it in Los Angeles. And the movie is one of the year’s most original and rapturously acclaimed for being nothing less than a full-fledged modern-day musical steeped in the traditions of 1950's Golden Age Hollywood and the French New Wave.
The co-stars are Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling in their third screen pairing after Crazy, Stupid, Love (2011) and Gangster Squad (2013). The writer cum director is Damien Chazelle, who became an overnight sensation when his 2014 Whiplash was nominated for five Academy Awards including Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay. “I wrote this well before Whiplash,” says Chazelle of La La Land, which is currently in cinemas. “Ryan and Emma were the two things I really needed to make this gambit work. They feel like old-school movie stars. At the same time they’re very real and relatable. And they were willing to take the plunge. It was a big challenge for both of them to do this.”
Emma Stone stars as Mia, an aspiring actress who crosses paths with Ryan Gosling’s struggling musician, Sebastian. The self-confessed musical addict was cast off the bat of her 2014 Broadway debut in Cabaret. “For me, it was an incredible opportunity to work with Ryan again and, of course, with Damien,” says Stone of her third movie with Gosling and her first with writer director, Damien Chazelle.
Raised in Arizona, Stone got her first taste of success with her 2007 Hollywood comedy Superbad. Her films since include Zombieland, the 2011 rom-com Crazy, Stupid, Love opposite Ryan, The Amazing Spider-Man blockbuster series, and Birdman (2014), for which she received an Oscar nomination.
