MAYUKH MAJUMDAR MEET'S SATYAJEET DUBEY, WHO IS MAKING HIS MARK AS AN ACTOR AFTER 10 YEARS OF STRUGGLE
MAYUKH MAJUMDAR
Long way home

Satyajeet Dubey is the grandson of theatre giant Satyadev Dubey, who is said to have been the backbone of Hindi theatre in Mumbai. He's said to be the guru of three generations of actors. Satyadev Dubey was also a good writer, who won the National Film Award for Best Screenplay for Shyam Benegal's Bhumika (1977) and Filmfare Best Dialogue Award for Junoon (1979). Satyajeet is aware of the laurels earned by his grandfather but doesn't want to associate with them, willing to carve his own niche, earn his own way forward. He was cast as the lead in Shah Rukh Khan backed film Always Kabhi Kabhi (2011), which was directed by Roshan Abbas, but is finding his feet only now through his work in the OTT hospital drama series, Mumbai Diaries. Dubey plays the role of surgical resident Dr Ahaan Mirza with aplomb and holds his own in a show that has phenomenal actors like Konkona Sen Sharma, Mohit Raina and Sonali Kulkarni. The Bilaspur lad is understandably on a high. "It's been amazing. I mean I'm living my dream life - a guy from a small town who came to Mumbai to become an actor. I think I believed I was always an actor. I just started getting paid for it professionally. From the first time I did Yeh Kali Kali Aankhein on stage to all the plays that I used to do, the songs I used to sing, or the songs I choreographed, ..it's a culmination of it all," he says.
