IDRIS: 'I Don't Always Want To Be A Good Guy!'

MR TALL DARK AND HANDSOME himself chats to us about the good, the bad and the (not-so) ugly.

IDRIS: 'I Don't Always Want To Be A Good Guy!'

HE’S become one of Hollywood’s hottest sex symbols and an all-round good guy to boot, so why is Idris Elba so intent on spoiling his image? The answer is simple. In a business where reputation is everything, the Brit actor doesn’t want to be just another handsome movie star – in fact, he’s terrified of it. That’s why Idris isn’t afraid to get ugly on screen when he has to or play the bad guy when the mood takes him. Right now though the 44-year-old Londoner is in the mood for not only playing his kind of hero but one that harks back to the action movie icons he watched growing up.

In the much anticipated movie version of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower, Idris plays Roland Deschain – otherwise known as The Gunslinger – the last of his kind who once served to protect a structure holding the universe together. Matthew McConaughey plays Walter O’Dim, also known as the Man In Black, a power hungry threat determined to bring down the Dark Tower to bring about his own reign of terror. Having played everyone from Nelson Mandela to Thor’s gatekeeper, Idris is most at home away from Hollywood playing devoted father to Winston – his two-year-old son with girlfriend Naiyana Garth – and his 14-year-old daughter from a previous marriage, Isan.

Here Idris shed light on the mysterious Dark Tower, going up against Matthew McConaughey, hugging Stephen King and why he’d love to be a Shining star one day.
