After more than a year of fighting in court – and a much longer battle behind the scenes – Britney Spears has finally scored herself a win in her ongoing quest for freedom. In a rather abrupt change of tune, the singer’s father Jamie Spears has agreed to relinquish his longrunning role overseeing her finances as part of the strict conservatorship that has controlled Britney’s life since 2008.

Back in June, the 39-year-old hit out at her father in a court hearing, alleging he had been abusing his power over her for 13 years. “I’m here to get rid of my dad and charge him for conservatorship abuse,” she said. “Instead of trying to investigate my behaviour or my capacity, I want my dad investigated. This conservatorship is literally allowing my dad to rule my life … That is abuse, and we all know it.”
