In 2019, Julia Roberts had nothing but praise for her husband Danny Moder during a candid interview with Gwyneth Paltrow on her Goop podcast. “He truly, to this day, to this minute is just my favourite human,” she said at the time. “We just really, really like each other and we just enjoy each other’s company.”

But like many, the couple’s relationship has been pushed to the brink in 2020, with the ongoing pandemic and quarantine bringing “simmering issues” between them to a new head. “Raising a family and trying to keep the romance alive has been hard,” a source shared of the pair.

Earlier this year, Roberts purchased a $10.9 million home in San Francisco, with insiders revealing at the time the actress intended to relocate there from Malibu with the couple’s three children – 16-year-old twins Phinnaeus and Hazel and Henry, 13. But with Moder reportedly reluctant to a full-time move, tensions were said to have reached new heights. “They’ve been desperately trying to make it work,” added the source. “But it reached a breaking point.”
