WE REMEMBER

PRINCE PHILIP 1921-2021

After over seven decades of marriage, it was a very different world that Queen Elizabeth faced on April 9 when her beloved “rock” Prince Philip passed away. The Duke of Edinburgh, who was born a prince in Greece, died at home in Windsor Castle, just weeks shy of his 100th birthday.

Philip, who was the longest-serving consort in British history, had returned to Windsor on March 16 after spending a month in hospital, where he was treated for an infection before undergoing heart surgery. He spent his final days in comfort with his wife of 73 years by his side.

Dedicated to duty her whole life, Elizabeth has been honest that she couldn’t have gotten on with the job without the handsome former naval officer that she fought to marry.

“[Philip] has, quite simply, been my strength and stay all these years,” the Queen previously said of her husband.

Sadly the prince’s passing has been a stark reminder to the world that the Queen won’t live forever. In the eight months since she lost her “beloved”, Elizabeth has been forced to slow down as ailing health has seen her pull out of a short tour of Northern Ireland, the COP26 summit in Scotland and the UK’s Remembrance Sunday service.

WILLIE GARSON

The actor who played Carrie Bradshaw’s best gay friend Stanford Blatch in Sex and the City, WIllie Garson, passed away on September 21 at the age of 57. The sad death followed a private battle with pancreatic cancer. “Willie, I will miss everything about you,” Garson’s co-star and friend of three decades Sarah Jessica Parker posted in tribute. “We all loved and adored working with him,” added Cynthia Nixon, who plays Miranda Hobbes.
