Draping Women Elegantly

She has been draping women in exquisite sarees and also dressing them up with bespoke garments for 14 years. Proprietrix of Amrita Amazing Apparels, Prabha Narasimhan, designs exclusive blouses for women, each of which is a fashion statement. Her vision is to showcase a grand collection of exclusive one of a kind sarees soon. She retails only sarees now but has a tailoring and embroidery unit that employs skilled workers, both men and women. Over the years, Prabha, who has developed an exhaustive clientele base among the crème de la crème of Chennai, which also includes celebrities, runs Brand Amrita with two designers and 60 workers, holding exhibition of her sarees even in places like Mumbai and Bengaluru. She spoke to Provoke Lifestyle about her life and work 

Childhood

During my childhood, I had a very simple life. My father was in the Railways and was posted in different places, which ensured that I grew up in very many places. Finally we came back to Chennai, where I finished my school. 
Inspiration

My mother was my inspiration in my childhood. Ah! not only in childhood, even later in my adulthood. She used to wear beautiful sarees and I always looked up to her. For, she would even shop for me. When I was in college, I stayed in a hostel. My mother, who would travel to places like Mumbai, Kolkata and Delhi with my father, always picked lovely sarees and sent them to me. Those sarees that I draped around always drew appreciative comments in my college. She kept a beautiful home and was a great hostess. Though she always remained a homemaker, I have never seen somebody more efficient and more beautiful than her 
Design business

My career has actually been varied. I started off with the Airline industry. I was into sales and marketing for one of the leading travel agency in India. From there I moved on to the most beautiful and the leading airline in the world, heading sales in southern India. Basically it was marketing as well as doing PR and building. Then at the age of 50, I changed my career path and started designing clothes.
