Jenny agutter on why she loves her enigmatic character and her challenging new storyline…
DRAMA
Call the Midwife
SUNDAY / BBC1 / 8.00PM
Jenny Agutter has been one of our favourite stars ever since she got her big break as spirited teenager Bobbie in the classic 1970 film, The Railway Children.
But for the past six years, we’ve welcomed her into our living rooms as Call the Midwife’s caring and oh-so-wise Sister Julienne.
Here, in an exclusive chat with TV Times, Jenny, 65, reveals what’s ahead for her character and why the role remains so special to her…
In this week’s episode… Sister Julienne faces a situation outside her experience. She meets Mumtaz, from Pakistan, who is sad because she hasn’t had children, but then her husband turns up with a pregnant second wife. Sister Julienne tries to help the family because her priority is the child.
When dealing with her colleagues… Sister Julienne shows some backbone. This week there’s an impasse between her and Sister Monica Joan [Judy Parfitt], who has cataracts but does not want an operation. Then, when faced with Trixie’s [Helen George] drinking, Sister Julienne is stern yet also embracing of her because there’s a problem to be faced.
