Released in August 1988, the song went on to sell a number of records not that far removed from several hundred gazillion and continues to evoke bittersweet nostalgia for music lovers to this day.At the core of the song is Slash&rsquo;s finger-twisting riff&ndash; a line originally played by Slash as a warm-up exercise. It&rsquo;s a long run of constant eighth notes, and, though other picking patterns are available, using alternate down and upstrokes will help you stay in time.Solo-wise there&rsquo;s a lot to digest with a bunch of different shapes to learn on the fretboard. As usual, we&rsquo;ve included a few scale shapes for you. Try playing the scales before tackling the solos and things should make a bit more sense.
