Anthony Scaramucci was appointed as Trump’s communications director – but the foul-mouthed fireball didn’t even see out two weeks in the job.
IT’S got to be one of the shortest-lived political appointments in American history. Ten days – that’s how long Donald Trump’s new right-hand man lasted in his new job. When Anthony Scaramucci was first appointed as the White House’s new communications director the president sang his praises, making him sound like the best thing since sliced bread.
But within the space of less than two weeks it all went sour. White House insiders have revealed that in the end it was the former financier’s brash, confrontational tone that sank him. Some senior figures apparently point-blank refused to work with him, but what ultimately proved to be his undoing was his ego – it was too big for his boss’ liking, and coming from a guy like Trump that’s saying a lot!
The shock axing capped a crazy few weeks in American politics which saw three other key members of Trump’s team either resigning their jobs in indignation or being fired. It’s been hard to keep up — at times it’s felt like an episode of The Apprentice. And the catalyst behind most of the drama was Scaramucci (53)— or The Mooch as he’s nicknamed. From day one in the West Wing he ruffled feathers, insulting his opponents, making explosive allegations on Twitter and calling in to TV stations to give impromptu interviews.
Although the self-made millionaire had no political or communication experience Trump gave him free rein, hoping that with his no-holds-barred style he’d be the breath of fresh air the White House needed, a new broom to sweep clean.
Something else about Scaramucci that would definitely have been a draw card for Trump is his dogged loyalty.
“I love the president and I’m very loyal to the president, and I love the mission the president has,” he enthused in his first media briefing.
