In recent years, the fashion industry—which has been notorious for its lack of diversity—has taken a more inclusive approach. And designers have finally come to terms with the fact that ‘diversity’ is not a fleeting trend, but the need of the hour to allow various ethnicities, skin tones, and shapes and sizes to feel represented.
Balenciaga’s Creative Director Demna Gvasalia is at the forefront of this change as he continues to include real people to showcase his creations. Likewise, Jacquemus recently held a fashion show in Hawaii, where models of various sizes and races walked the runway, and were styled in harmony with their bodies. In addition to that, luxury fashion houses such as Chanel, Fendi, Salvatore Ferragamo, have also joined the movement and are emphasising the beauty of diversity. Calvin Klein underwear models also went through a sea change with the brand selecting women with varied body types to showcase their collection.
