Scroll through the #shelfie tag on any social media platform and you will be presented with millions of pictures, posts, videos and reels of color-coordinated skincare or a range of products painstakingly placed under well-lit, decorated cabinets and shelves. Masks, creams, moisturisers, exfoliators, lotions, serums, cleansers, toners, etc. launched daily by existing and new brands dominated the skincare scene. An extensive skincare routine consisting of the ‘it list’ of products was the status symbol and a common point of chat among the beauty junkies till almost last year.

However, things changed drastically ever since the pandemic struck and the approach to beauty took a big U-turn. Where once makeup held a high position in beauty, more time was invested and preference was given to skincare routine, mainly due to the lack of availability of products and salons. It was no surprise then that 2021 was the end of the cake-on that-makeup idea that gave rise to skin minimalism – a penchant which has been hailed as the ‘new glow-up’.
