Whether I’m on a race track or off the beaten track, I always find a way to have some fun. Of course, it helps that I get to experience these conditions in some fantastic cars. This month, I hit Kyalami race track in the new Mercedes-AMG C 63 S and then took on some rougher terrain in the new Range Rover Evoque.
Having been a motoring journalist for more than 12 years now, I’ve done my fair share of track driving. I’ve also done a number of advanced and high-performance driving courses, yet almost every time I get behind the wheel and am facing down the pit lane, my heart starts to race, I almost always have to remove a piece of clothing due to overheating and my palms start to sweat.
Driving on a track requires intense concentration and a basic knowledge of track rules, but most importantly, it demands that you have as much fun as possible. And the Mercedes-AMG C 63 S is just the car to facilitate the kind of fun you are required to have. It has a 4.0-litre V8 biturbo engine that produces unstoppable performance figures of 375kW of power and 700Nm of torque, so it will get you to 100km/h in just 4.0 seconds (in the sedan version).
