At the time, I was entrenched in the mainstream entertainment industry, writing for film, television, and print media. I was starting to feel burnt-out by work that was becoming more and more mediocre in standard, and by the dishonesty of creative decisions driven mainly by commercial profit and mass audience ratings. I was also emotionally stressed, volatile, and prone to attracting toxic, exploitative people into my life. I wanted a change but was unable to identify the change I desired or how to go about it. I guess I was going through a pre-midlife crisis.
My worldview shifted as I did some stocktaking, traveled, spent time with family, and started regular ‘power’, yoga classes. I felt better almost immediately, became physically fit, and simultaneously started a new journey in my freelance writing career, choosing more fulfilling projects as a journalist, screenwriter, and columnist. In time, I also started developing the idea for my first novel and prepared myself with a detailed structure and notes.
