Over the last few years, I have started to realize the importance of having a purpose in life.
Earning money is a purpose for many people, definitely for the bread earner of the home. Similarly, for home makers, their purpose in life is generally to do the household chores and raise their kids, have them married and settled down. And then they would feel they have accomplished their objectives in life. But then once the children are married and busy in their own lives, what should the elderly do?
My mother is in her late sixties now. She is an educated woman, she completed her college and got a degree in home science before her marriage. Her life after marriage was that of a home maker. And her children were the focus of her life. With my youngest brother having recently gotten married, suddenly my mother is at a loss of purpose in life. She does not know what she is supposed to do now. All her household chores are being taken care of. This leaves her clueless to what she should do during the day. Looking at her many a time, I also think to myself, what is exactly her purpose in life now?
Slowly I have gotten some answers. I do not know exactly what her purpose in life is, but her old age has taught me a few things.
