To show how easy it is to make your own decorations, the Garden and Home team put on their creative hats and made this stylish selection to inspire you
1. IT’S A WRAP
This year, add glamour to your gifts with black wrapping paper embellished with hand-stamped metallic accents. Cut out Christmas tree shapes from moulding foam, sponge, or a good old potato, and stamp the wrapping paper with gold, copper or silver paint in a design of your choice. Tip: Spray-paint dried foliage, small pine cones and seed pods in a matching metallic, and use them to add extra sparkle to gifts.
2. SOFT TOUCH
Reminiscent of snowflakes, pompons look lovely tied onto strings of fairy lights. Cut a disc out of cardboard, the size of the desired pompon, and make a small hole in the middle. Wind wool through the hole and around the outside until the disc is completely covered. Add a few more layers depending on how fluffy you want the pompon to be. Using sharp scissors, cut around the edge of the disc until all the ends are loose. Tie at the centre with a long piece of wool to make a loop, then slide the disc off, fluff out the pompon and trim uneven pieces.
