Listening to the hustle and bustle of the Cape Town CBD from the balcony of Luna Loft, you would never expect the tranquil oasis that awaits inside.
'I've always felt better and more expansive in an uncrowded home, inspired by my favourite Bali luxury interiors and the idea that "less is more" when it comes to decluttering the mind,' explains Head of Design at Tangerine Studio Mish Hsu.
This inspiration is evident throughout the loft, prioritising warm minimalism and a hint of Japandi style. The name of the remodelled loft is 'Luna', and the reasoning for this moniker is clear in the design.
'I often find myself drawn to looking at nature and all the elements I love in real life to inspire my designs. Luna Loft really represents the moon's simple yet striking characteristics. Lunar elements are thoughtfully followed throughout the space, with crescent shapes integrated in specially commissioned artworks by Shannon Conacher, a boucle, arched headboard adorning the bed, organic rounded shelves and a staircase inspired by the flow and orbit of the moon's movement.'
'Marrying the Bali style with the metaphor of the moon made the minimalist design choice easy. We hadn't seen a smaller loft in a simplistic style and were used to seeing quirky, edgy, NYstyle lofts and thought it'd be really fun to do something unexpected. This is why we were so adamant about Luna Loft becoming a space filled with breezy, unconfined freedom, says Mish.
Mish and her co-creator Ryan were not deterred by the challenges of a small loft space.
