Celtic women’s keeper, Megan Cunningham says the side have set their stall out for the rest of the season and continuing improvement is the main aim
THE Celtic Women’s side have made an impressive start to their 2017 season with progress to the SWPL Cup semifinal against Spartans and an unbeaten run in their league campaign.
The biggest feather in the cap so far was the 1-1 draw with perennial champions, Glasgow City, a game in which the Celts came so close to taking all three points.
Megan Cunningham has been between the sticks for these games and she was so again on Sunday when they defeated Stirling University 2-1 on the hallowed turf of Celtic Park even though the Hoops finished the game a player down when Ruesha Littlejohn was red-carded.
The Celts now sit joint second with City and Spartans on seven points while Hibernian are top with nine and Cunningham is now looking forward to an exciting season for the side, as the 21-year-old keeper told the View this week.
How has the season been so far?
It’s been really good after just a few games and we are trying to find consistency and results in our performances. We had a really good result against City which has set us up really nicely in the table. We are well and truly up there and that shows our intentions for this year as we want to be competing with the top two and really pushing for it. So far it has been going well and there’s the semi-final of the cup. We hope we can progress to get to our first final for a few years. We probably had a good draw in meeting Spartans, who are also on a good run as well, but it will be good to go into that game knowing that we have avoided the top two. It’s all there to play for.
And what about your own season?
