BRENDAN Rodgers believes Celtic’s dazzling display at the Stadium Light on Saturday underlined how much the Hoops relish being on the road. And that is why the Irishman is confident his team are well-equipped to harvest a positive result away to Rosenborg tonight (Wednesday) and book their spot in the UEFA Champions League play-off round.

The Hoops were held by the Norwegian outfit in Paradise last week in a frustrating goal-less draw in their third round qualifier, leaving the tie evenly poised for the second leg in Trondheim. In familiar surroundings and with the backing of a bigger support, typically, this scenario would favour the home side.

But this is a Celtic team that thrives on space left by teams playing with greater adventure, demonstrated by the amount of away goals they plundered last season, and they provided a reminder of their ability to cut the opposition apart with their 5-0 demolition of Simon Grayson’s Sunderland in the Dafabet Cup at the weekend.

And speaking exclusively to this week’s View, the manager revealed his delight at his side’s swashbuckling showing ahead of such a crucial European contest.

“It was a very good exercise for us,” he said. “We obviously had a lot of the same players playing from the game on Wednesday night. We had to rest a couple of players but we had players who were coming in who hadn’t played so much recently, along with some of our young players. I thought the cohesion in the team was very good and our style of football was very evident and clear. Our goal scoring threat was also clearly there.
