I landed my first-part time job during the summer months.
Believe me it was a perfect fit. I was never interested in working at fast-food restaurants or retail stores, however, I did work for a bowling alley and the tips were great! I have always been intrigued by working in an “office,” having a set up with a desk and telephone. During my Junior year of high school, I volunteered to work for the Dean of the school, answering phone calls, taking messages and some filing. When the summer months were approaching, I spoke with the Dean and she put in a good word for me to work the summer at the Super intendant’s Office. I loved it so much that it actually led me to other office jobs and eventually in the corporate arena and a law firm.
These jobs taught me how to manage money, handle responsibility, and how to deal with the general public. They were invaluable experiences and provided me with some much-needed autonomy and financial freedom.
