Many would agree that the widespread fascination with the iconic bust of Queen Nefertiti discovered in 1912 is what propelled eyeliner into the 20th Century. Mimicking the thick, black line of kohl that outlined the ancient Egyptian queen’s almond-shaped eyes, it did not take long for eyeliner to become symbolic of notable beauty icons of our time—from Twiggy to Brigitte Bardot, and most recently, the season’s runway models sporting regal looks.
