When the going gets tough, Muhammad Iqbal Ameer and his company The Livescape Group gets tougher, writes Lily Ong.
AT THE YOUNG AGE of 17, Muhammad Iqbal Ameer lost a toe in an accident. “You have to understand, I was active in sports during my youth. It was upsetting after the accident because being a jock was a massive part of my identity. It hurt to know that I was not able to be active again,” he relates.
Iqbal did take away one valuable lesson from the experience—he learnt how to be strong and resilient; two qualities that helped him get through a mega crisis that struck his events company, The Livescape Group, in 2014. A large-scale concert his company organised, The Future Music Festival Asia, was cancelled after six festival-goers were reportedly found dead from drug overdose. Even Iqbal’s degree in public relations did not prepare him for the upheaval that happened after the news broke.
