With over a century of history, Harley-Davidson is more than just a brand, it has become a lifestyle. Fiona Kee discovers what makes these rides so special
Some engines hum and whine, while others roar, but a Harley-Davidson’s engine rumbles.
To the unfamiliar, the low, deep-throated, distinctive sound could easily be mistaken for a loud thunder, but to a biker, there’s no mistaking the sound of a Harley-Davidson motorcycle.
Capturing the essence of freedom, heritage, community and quality, the Harley-Davidson brand has provided bikers with 116 years of quality riding experience since being founded in 1903. Under the refreshed dealership network, Harley-Davidson of Petaling Jaya (HD-PJ) officially opened its doors in March 2018, but with a unique twist in terms of its sales.
The metal steeds are currently housed at The Gasket Alley. But what makes this special for HD-PJ is the partnership between two motorcycle enthusiasts, Rewi Hamid Bugo and Goh Kian Sin, chairman and director respectively of DIDI Resources, the authorised importer of Harley-Davidson in Malaysia, and joint owner-operator of The Gasket Alley.
“We recognised the importance of not just importing motorcycles for the sake of selling and treating it purely as a business venture; we feel we understand the discretionary spending that goes with it,” said Rewi. “Discretionary spending is shifting focus from material things to experiences, and motorcycles are interesting, as they offer a bit of both and for a motorcycle to be experienced to its fullest capacity, it needs to be in the right environment, thus the creation of The Gasket Alley.”
