Instead of sprinkling salt on foods, go for more herbs and spices. Not only will they add more flavour, they’re also good for your gut health, according to a study published in November 2022 in the Journal of Nutrition. The participants added 24 herbs and spices, including ginger, rosemary, basil and cinnamon, to their diets. After four weeks, those who’d sprinkled even as little as a teaspoon a day on their meals increased the variety of microbes living in their digestive tracts. A diverse gut microbiome is important for overall health and well-being, including immunity.
