We were going to shoot two videos, one for &ldquo;Mexican Radio&rdquo; and one for &ldquo;Factory.&rdquo; Incidentally, the budget was $1300. We had an Eraserhead type treatment for &ldquo;Factory,&rdquo; and Stan Ridgway was saying, what if we had some strange old woman in a kitchen and something is burning, and then she was to go over to the stove, pull open the oven, and on the oven rack there would be Stan&rsquo;s face protruding from a meat loaf. When we realized we would be shooting a video for just one track, Stan is going, Frank, what about the meat loaf, we&rsquo;ve got to have the meat loaf! Well, I said, it&rsquo;s not going to be a meatloaf. That&rsquo;s the bad news. The good news is, we&rsquo;re going to still have your head in support, but since it&rsquo;s Mexico, and they seem to like their beans down there, it&rsquo;s beans! even though clearly these were not refried beans.<img src="https://magztertemp.s3.amazonaws.com/1629390369/1630523450/articles/61bc460a2d14b/1639728627_loc.jpeg" />My goodness. It would have been quite a mess. Yeah, so, kind of strange. So then it&rsquo;s like, okay, now how are we going to do this? Well, we get Ann Marie Bates, a lovely lady, as the woman. Paulie Peterson found that large single steel bowl and put a hole in the bottom of it. Stan was underneath this table with his head in the beans, and we found a plastic garbage bag stuff to put around his head that kept the beans falling down. There&rsquo;s no foreshadowing or setting up for a reveal, really. We created some anticipation with a slow push-in. You can see his nose sticking out so you he could breathe. It was constructed in such a way that, on cue, I&rsquo;d say, &ldquo;Okay now!&rdquo; and he&rsquo;d just push through. It just shows that you have to try new things and trust the people you work with to come through.
