Philipp Lahm has been the prototype of all good things about German football; resilience, discipline, winning mentality and success. Having bid goodbye to international football with the 2014 World Cup, the Magic Dwarf — as this celebrated 5-feet-7inches defender came to be known as — was also at the heart of FC Bayern Munich’s domination in modern football, having led the club to eight Bundesliga titles and one Champions League among other trophies.
As Bayern Munich marched towards lifting their 10th Bundesliga title in a row, Lahm took time to reflect on his past and look forward to the changing horizon of modern football in an exclusive interview with TOI. Excerpts:
