Since its announcement, the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 has been a point of contention. Recently, while the University of Delhi (DU) shared that it will introduce NEP from the next academic session (2022-23), the state of Karnataka will implement the NEP from the current academic session (2021-22).
Process involved
Lingaraja Gandhi, vice-chancellor, Bangalore City University (BCU), Bengaluru, explains, “After the Policy was announced, the state constituted a task force. The report submitted by this group specified a clear road for implementation of NEP.”
Immediately, various sub-committees were formed for academic and administrative reforms. “The sub-committee on curricular reforms suggested a draft framework based on the major, minor and open elective framework as defined by NEP. The subjectwise committee is using this framework to finalise the University’s curriculum. The final draft is expected within a few weeks,” says Gandhi.
At DU, an NEP implementation committee was formed to identify the framework to be adopted, says Vikas Gupta, registrar, DU.
