Many Indian students were among the thousands on Wednesday that waited at Kharkiv railway station for a train to the western borders of Ukraine for evacuation as heavy Russian firing triggered a scramble to get out of the war-ravaged city.
But the dash to the station was no guarantee of an immediate exit. When Joel Jophson (22), who is from Kerala and studies in the 5th year at VN Karazin Kharkiv National University, reached the railway station in the morning, his seniors who had left the bunkers two days ago for an evacuation were still waiting.
