It was a proud moment for India when AdlineCastelino emerged as the third runner-up at therecently held Miss Universe pageant in Florida, US. The gorgeous 22-year-old competed against 73 other beauty queens from across the globe at the 69th edition of the pageant and was the only Asian to reach the top five this year. The last time India was in the top five was in 2001 when Celina Jaitly was declared the fourth runner-up. Behind all the glamour and glitz, Adline’s story is one of determination and hard work. In an exclusive chat, she talks about her remarkable journey and her future plans,among other things.Excerpts:
Due to the ongoing pandemic, this one must have been a tougher-than-ever-before experience for you?
It was a miracle that I was able to reach the US despite the lockdown in Mumbai, and all the other setbacks. Once there, people showed a lot of sympathy for India and spoke about the situation back home. At that time, I would tell them that while we were going through a difficult time, we were also tough and would get through this. No matter what crisis we go through, we bounce back stronger. I was determined to give the country a reason to smile.
