The Sony FE 50 mm f/1.2 GM was introduced worldwide on March 16, 2021. It is the 12th G Master lens from Sony. G Master lenses are Sony’s top-of-the-line lenses designed for their full-frame E-mount camera bodies. 50 mm focal length is great for weddings, landscapes, fashion and street photography, and is useful for most kinds of general photography. Besides, the fast f/1.2 aperture makes it a great lens when light levels are low.

Design & Build Quality

Immaculately finished and looking every bit a pro lens, the Sony FE 50 mm f/1.2 G Master (GM) lens is very well crafted. The outer body is made from metal and engineering plastic. Dust and moisture-resistant seals are provided for all buttons and rings. The aperture ring is clearly marked in 1/3 stops all the way from f/1.2 – f/16. The ring also has an ‘A’ position. When set to ‘A’, the apertures can be set via the command dial on the camera body. Filter size is 72 mm and the lens is made in Thailand.
