The distinction between specialisations in photography and videography has blurred considerably in the past few years with video being an integral part of the profession, thanks to social media pressures. While the same device can provide professional quality stills and videos, sound recording is another game altogether. A lavalier microphone is a necessity when you have to capture dialogues without too much interference from the background. The Sennheiser XS Lav USB-C Mobile Kit includes the minimum set of tools that a smartphone content creator needs.
Design & Build Quality
The kit includes a Manfrotto PIXI mini tripod, which is one of the best designed and most sturdy compact tabletop tripod for smartphones. The tripod offers a ball head that can be precisely repositioned with the use of a single button. Rubber feet make it non-slippery.
The phone clamp that Sennheiser has included in this kit is made of aluminium and is again, one of the sturdiest and best designed products in this category. Once the phone is securely held in the cradle, you can lock the position so that the arms don’t slip. The cradle itself can be rotated laterally in whichever angle you require and locked in its position. This smartphone clamp offers standard 1/4inch and 3/8-inch tripod threads at the vertical base with additional 1/4-inch threads at the side that allow overhead positioning on a compatible boom or tripod. The clamp includes a cold-shoe mount for accessories.
