Sony has redesigned its FE 70-200 mm f/2.8 GM OSS lens. The new version is FE 70-200 mm f/2.8 GM OSS II, which is also the world’s lightest (as of Oct. 2021, compared to full-frame f/2.8 70-200 mm lenses that support autofocus). The lens offers fast, continuous autofocus and tracking even when stopped down. Sports, landscape, wildlife and action photographers will find this lens of immense value. The lens is dust and moisture resistant. With the introduction of this lens, Sony now has a total of 45 full-frame lenses and 20 APS-C lenses for their E-mount camera bodies.
Design & Build Quality
Sony’s FE 70-200 mm f/2.8 GM OSS lens is lightweight, very well made and looks ‘professional’ all the way. The manual focus ring is towards the filter end. The zoom ring is legibly marked at 70, 100, 135 and 200 mm. Both the rings – the manual focus ring and the zoom ring – have rubberised grip. The lens mount is made from metal and has a rubberised ring to prevent water splashes and dust from entering the lens. The design of the lens makes it dust and moisture resistant.
