Look Beyond The Apparent

A girl recently asked me probing questions about Sita and Yashodhara. She was of the view that what happened to them was unjust and unfair. How does one understand and accept the gender disparity and the trials and tribulations they had to undergo? I was touched by the sincerity of her questions.

Sita was the daughter of a King, exceptionally intelligent and well-read. She spent a lot of time in the company of saints even in her younger days. As Rama’s wife, she was the queen of Ayodhya. Why did she have to face so much dishonor?

We have to look at this issue from a bigger perspective. Many scriptural stories of perceived unfair treatments have profound underlying significance. Be it about Sita, Yashodhara or Meera, what they seemingly went through has left timeless lessons for humanity. Any logical explanation will neither suffice nor come close to the truth.
