I’m going all techno this month, as I review a little known gadget that is an ideal accessory for the Umarex M4, especially in dark conditions. As can be seen from news reports and documentaries, U.S. service personnel are provided with a range of accessories for the M4 carbine, such is the modular nature of the design. One of the most interesting is an integrated torch, laser and infrared illuminator known as the PEQ-16A.

The principle of combining an infrared illuminator for identifying targets at night through infrared goggles, along with a visible light laser, is not a new one, but adding a powerful torch beam to the package cuts down on overall bulk. This is because a separate torch is no longer required as the PEQ-16A combines all three. An original PEQ-16A is not a cheap piece of kit, if indeed one can source an example, but there are airsoft copies available.
