THE recent resounding 3-0 SPFL win over his former club, Hibernian, saw Scott Brown draw level with Hoops legend and Lisbon Lion, Bobby Lennox in Celtic appearances.
Leading the Hoops out on to the pitch for that match saw the skipper tie on 586 games for the Hoops with the perennial Lennox, and, of course, the current captain then edged ahead in the games against Sarajevo and St Johnstone.
The longevity of Lennox was breath-taking then as now, as he joined at the start of the 1960s and, two decades later in the 1980s, he finally hung up his boots at the club with only a six-month hiatus with Houston Hurricane in 1978, splitting his Celtic career..
And the man who, with 277 goals is Celtic’s second greatest ever scorer, behind only the great Jimmy McGrory, bowed out at the top as his final game as the 1980 Scottish Cup final 1-0 win over Rangers – five years before Brown was born..
