Academy graduate Chloe Warrington on making her first start against Glasgow City and pushing for trophies in 2020

CHLOE Warrington made her first start for the Celtic FC Women’s side in their momentous 2-1 league win over reigning champions, Glasgow City last month. The last-gasp triumph saw the Hoops kick-off their domestic campaign in dramatic fashion, when a goal from captain, Kelly Clark sunk the visitors with the last kick of the ball.

Warrington was delighted with her first senior-level start, and now the 17-year-old full-back – who joined the club at Academy level 10 years ago – wants to continue working hard, and continue pushing for silverware in Fran Alonso’s side.

HOW DID YOU FIND THE GLASGOW CITY WIN?

That was my first start for the senior women’s side and I played the full 90 minutes. Playing against Glasgow City was a good test against a good side. I didn’t expect to start, never mind play the full game, against such a big side in what was an important game for us. But once my name was announced, while it was a surprise, I was delighted to be involved and be given the chance to play my part. Personally, it was a big step for me, but I was happy to make it and happy to contribute.

WERE YOU NERVOUS BEFOREHAND?

I didn’t know I was starting until I arrived with the squad on the night. I messaged my parents right away to let them know, and they were buzzing for me. I didn’t get the chance to see them beforehand, but after the game they were really proud and really chuffed for me. I was a little bit nervous on the afternoon of the game, before I found out I was starting, but once I got in the changing room, I was focused on the game. I thought about the game itself, how it might go, and what it might take to get a positive outcome. Luckily, we managed to do that.
