The number of different Italian clubs that Celtic have faced in European competition. As well as AC Milan, the Hoops have also played Inter Milan, Fiorentina, Juventus, Udinese and, last season, Lazio. There have been three clashes with Inter Milan, while the Hoops have faced AC Milan on five occasions. Juventus have been opponents three times, while Fiorentina and Udinese have both only met Celtic once. Last season was the first competitive clashes with Lazio, and Neil Lennon’s men triumphed 2-1 on both occasions.
1967
The first ever meeting between Celtic and an Italian club came on May 25, 1967 when the Hoops faced Inter Milan at the Estadio Nacional in Lisbon. The occasion was the European Cup final and Jock Stein’s side triumphed in the Portuguese capital, beating Inter 2-1 thanks to goals from Tommy Gemmell and Stevie Chalmers.
