England and India are set to battle it out in a five-match Test series starting August 4. Team India, who reached the ICC World Test Championship final (2019-21), will kick start its new chapter in the 2021-23 cycle. This is a massive series for India, which does not boast of a sound record on English soil. Notably, they were handed massive defeats in their previous two Test tours here in 2014 and 2018 respectively.
Under skipper Virat Kohli, India has a tough job on offer and the idea will be to step up and deliver the goods against Joe Root-led England. The five-match Test series will also see several top players of the sport face each other as several major records can be set. On the same note, we present the key records that players from both nations can script.
JAMES ANDERSON SET TO REACH NEW HEIGHTS
England's veteran pacer James Anderson has claimed 617 Test scalps at a sound average of 26.27. Interestingly, Anderson is the most successful pacer in Test cricket. He is also the only pacer with more than 600-plus wickets in the format. Currently, the likes of spinners Muttiah Muralitharan, Shane Warne, and Anil Kumble hold the record for most Test wickets in the game. In the Test series against India, Anderson can get past former India legend Kumble, who claimed 619 Test scalps. With this, Anderson can become the third-highest wicket-taker in the longest format.
