ROUND TWO

Not to be outdone by his first-round trade, Giants general manager “Trader” Dave Gettleman once again pulled the trigger on a swap in the second round. The Giants traded the 42nd overall pick to the Miami Dolphins for the 50th overall selection as well as Miami’s third-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.

For someone who has never traded down in the draft until this year, Gettleman not only seemed to be enjoying himself but he also appeared to be quite good at it. And with the 50th overall selection in the 2021 NFL Draft, the Giants got the edge rusher they likely wanted all along in Georgia’s Azeez Ojulari.

“We were busy,” said the Giants’ GM. “I’m learning to make right turns in NASCAR. We got a third-round pick in ’22 and picked up Azeez Ojulari, who we are really thrilled to get. He’s an edge pass rusher, he’s instinctive, he’s very bright, plays hard, and he’s got pass-rush ability.”

The 6’2”, 249 lbs. Georgia Bulldog, who won’t be 21 years old until June, was viewed by many as the best of the edge rushers in the 2020 draft. He earned Second Team AllSEC honors in 2020 and finished with 9.5 sacks and 31 total tackles, including 12.5 for loss. His name was associated with the Giants early on in many mock drafts and many analysts had him pegged as the best pure pass rusher coming out of college.
