“It was an extremely emotional week,” Ryan said. “As you guys know from the last time I talked to you all about my wife, I am extremely grateful to the organization and to my wife. She’s a fighter. To not lose her there in that situation is very fortunate. At the same time, my wife and I mourn in silence of our lost child during that process. We mourn a loss but we will move on.”
Oh. My. God.
The silence on the Zoom call was deafening. Nobody expected to hear that come out of Ryan’s mouth and you could feel the sadness from all of us who cover the Giants on a daily basis.
If you’re not familiar with the story, I will recap: Ryan’s wife, Ashley, flew to the family’s offseason home in Florida to vote in the presidential election after the Giants’ Monday night loss to the Buccaneers.
“I was leaving the stadium around 1 a.m. and she was telling me about some pains,” Ryan said. “I told her to sleep it off. She said she was in extreme pain but would wait (until) the morning.”
