Odell Beckham Jr. is a once in a generation type of talent who, based on his sheer athletic ability, should be mentioned in the same breath as Lawrence Taylor, Jim Brown, and Jerry Rice. But his “me-first” attitude is destroying any and all credibility that this franchise has left.

Feathered Helmet week is always a stressful time in my house. But this year, it was something much, much more. The week began with my daughter Audrey not making the “good” basketball team at her grammar school. It’s usually a tough conversation to have with a child but she’s a pretty tough kid who can handle disappointment. After all, we’re Giants fans living on the cusp of sub-humanity (Feathered Helmet-ville). It was the kind of week where you say to yourself, “Okay, where’s the camera? This HAS to be a secret camera show where the subject is my blood pressure and how it can rise to lethal levels!”

But the Foley household, like so many across the country, has Giants Sundays. And a win over the Feathered Helmet Unit would not only bring Big Blue to 1 – 2 but it would raise the collective spirits for all of us. As juvenile as it sounds, that’s what the Giants can do and I truly believe that they have that type of effect in most Big Blue homes. Sports, especially football, have that almost magical quality. We (usually) make no money off a Giants win and our life (technically) isn’t really effected by a win or a loss. Yet a win puts on top of the world and a loss, especially to a team and town like Filthadelphia, places us squarely in the depths of hell. As Rick DeLorenzo of Trenton’s “DeLorenzo’s Pizza” on Hamilton Avenue in Trenton, NJ so eloquently used to say to me, “Jer, enough with the football talk. It don’t put no money in your pocket!” But what Rick didn’t understand was the emotional attachment that we have to our beloved team. (Actually, he did get it. Rick was a huge Stan Musial fan).
