THE JURY IS OUT ON WILLIAMS - Should this trade should have never happened?
Williams and Giants playing “wait and see”

Very few people gave Giants general manager Dave Gettleman rave reviews regarding his trade with the Jets for veteran defensive lineman Leonard Williams.

Williams, a former first round pick of the Jets in 2015 (sixth overall) and a Pro Bowler in 2016, was dealt to the Giants along with $4 million in cash last October in exchange for the Giants’ third round pick in this year’s NFL Draft and a conditional pick in 2021.

Williams came right in and did exactly what he was doing for the Jets — stopping the run but not generating much of a pass rush. In his seven starts with the Jets last season, Williams had 20 tackles with five quarterback hits and inexplicably had no sacks. After coming to the Giants, he started eight games, making 26 tackles with 11 quarterback hits and recorded one-half sack.
