‘Split ends’, as the name implies, occur when the ends of the hair split due to damage or weather conditions. Split ends come in multiple types and each type is like a roadmap to your damaged hair. Sounds distressing, doesn’t it? Fret not, for here’s a low-down on the causes and solutions to six most common types of split ends, along with some special care and nourishment.

THE BASIC

This is the commonest type of split end; no wonder it’s called The Basic. Resembling the alphabet ‘Y’, this usually indicates an early stage of split ends development where the cortical cells are still coupled together but larger hair sections are beginning to split. Easily identifiable, this one sends a silent message that your hair is yearning for some TLC.

Causes:

Friction, everyday wear and tear, dryness and insufficient hair care

Solution:

Use a deep nourishing conditioner for your hair.

Up the intake of zinc enriching foods in your diet.
