Veteran actress opens up about earning R11 a week and raising her family on that money
VETERAN actress, Nandi Nyembe (66), has walked more than just a mile in the film industry and is full of wisdom that could fill the whole nation. She has played numerous roles and shares tips on how to portray strong characters.
PERSEVERANCE IN THE INDUSTRY
Nandi says her journey in the industry has been very tough and is not as everyone perceives it to be. But her passion kept her loyal to her craft.
“It was not easy. When I started, I earned R11 a week for a very long time and I had to raise my family with that money. It was hard,” says Nandi.
“When I got a role on Soul City, which is not so long ago, I used to earn R300 per call or day. We worked for four to five days and it was about R1 500 a month. It was difficult and people thought we were making so much money.”
Nandi is pleased to have paved the way for young actors.
