Marriage is meant to be a special covenant between man, woman and God
STATISTICS South Africa's latest marriage and divorce data shows that the divorce rate is up by almost five percent since 2012. Sadly, the divorce rate among Christians also makes for a grim reading. According to Pastor Justice Mokoena, a marriage counsellor, more Christian couples are choosing divorce over marriage counselling.
UNBREAKABLE BONDPastor Justice says many Christians see nothing wrong with divorce, at least in their particular situation.
“God, the author of marriage, established it as a permanent union. When two people marry, they form an unbreakable bond. Jesus himself taught that marriage is permanent (Matthew 19:3-6), and Paul reinforced this teaching (1 Corinthians 7:10- 11 and Ephesians 5:31-32).
The Church does not recognise a civil divorce because the state cannot dissolve what is unbreakable,” he says.
