Don’t be fazed by all the medicines in your pharmacy. Before picking something off the shelf and hoping it will magic you better, have a chat with your pharmacist. “Even if it’s a very personal medical problem, there will be a private consultation room where you can get the best advice,” says Sid Dajani, spokesman for the Royal Pharmaceutical Society.

Painkillers

If you’re used to buying Nurofen (£3.39 for 24) or Panadol (£1.69 for 16), you’ll make yourself a good saving by opting for an unbranded ibuprofen (35p for 16 from Tesco) or paracetamol (30p for 16 tablets from Tesco). “You can safely take both ibuprofen and paracetamol together. Seek advice first,” says Sid.
