A weekend in…BRIGHTON & HOVE

Why go?

The moment you breathe in the sea air, it’s clear Brighton is a tonic everyone should experience in life. Buzzing with a palpable excitement, you can join the crowds along the seafront parade, or you can enjoy the city’s more relaxed, bohemian side, thanks to its famous shopping Lanes and cultural tourist attractions. Just over one hour from London by car or train, and 30 minutes from Gatwick airport, it’s time to make the most of the beautiful beachside break on your doorstep.

Royal connections

Situated around 65 miles from London, it’s no surprise that, historically, Brighton proved popular with royals wanting a break from the capital to enjoy the medicinal coastal air – and some secret partying! Built as a retreat for the Prince Regent, who later became King George IV, by architect John Nash, the Royal Pavilion is ideal for history buffs to explore. Hidden in the heart of the city, it’s arguably Brighton’s biggest asset. Now over 200 years old, explore everything both upstairs and down, including the King’s Suite, Queen Victoria’s Bedroom and the Great Kitchen, which was considered innovative for its time. Allow up to two hours for your visit and be sure to set time aside afterwards to enjoy a tea and scone on the Tearoom balcony, while soaking up the views of the Regency gardens (brighton museums.org.uk/royalpavilion).

Get moving to beat that low mood

Look, I know it's November. The days are shorter (like our patience) and darker (like, sometimes, our mood) and moving our body gets pushed further down the must-do list. We hunker down and become insular.
