Don't Tell Me I Can't......Be A Model In My 50s

Smoothing out a small crease in the crimson dress, I place my hand on my hip, and reach out my other arm to brush the stone of the building behind me. Then, as the photographer snaps away I do my best to follow her instructions – after all, it’s my first modelling gig, I want to get this right. You might think I sound like a teenager or a twenty-something who’s just got her big break, but you couldn’t be more wrong. at 59, I’m proof that beauty doesn’t have an age limit.

From a young age I’ve been fascinated by fashion. Born in Australia to Italian parents, I always wanted to look my best. My family didn’t have a lot of money so, when I was eight, Mum taught me to sew and I began making my own dresses.

Still, as much as I enjoyed coming up with new creations, I never saw it as a career option so, when I was in my late teens, I went to university to study law. I became a solicitor and forgot my dreams of working in fashion.
