Katie Piper opens up to Woman about her thoughts on mental health, marriage and motherhood…
For many years, Katie Piper was sadly best known for being the victim of a brutal assault and acid attack, rebuilding her face and her life in the spotlight. But Katie used the media exposure to her advantage, campaigning for burns victims and even founding her own charity, the Katie Piper Foundation, as well as building a new career as a TV presenter. now, Katie, 33, who is married to Richard Sutton and has a daughter Belle, three, has turned her attention to a different project, with her own clothing range. Here, she talks frankly to Woman about the family’s newest addition, and who she looks to for inspiration…
‘Our cream carpets are covered in dog poo at the moment! We recently got a little sausage dog called Nana, after the dog in Peter Pan, because Belle is Peter Pan mad. He’s a right little character and it’s really nice for Belle to have a little play mate. I come home and they’re chasing each other around the house. She keeps trying to get into his dog basket too, which perhaps isn’t so cute!’
‘As a child, of course I dreamed about the big white wedding dress, but later on in my twenties, I learned that life isn’t a fairytale and you don’t have to get married and have children to have a happy ending. A lot of women don’t do that and still have a fulfilled life. But marriage has made things more concrete for us. Psychologically, it’s a nice feeling, having the ring and the same surname.’
